Lost VLC folder contents after restoring from local iTunes backup

Postby AKazak » 24 Aug 2024 11:15

Greetings!

I made a local iTunes backup of my iPhone, but didn't know that the "Include the media library in device backup" was (for some unknown weird reason) turned off by default:

Then I cleared the iPhone for a repair operation.
After repair I successfully restored the iPhone from the local iTunes backup, but discovered that the VLC folder (media library) is empty...

Now the question is: is there a miserable change that the local iTunes backup (huge size folder) may still have the original contents of the VLC folder?

Thank you.

No, your content is not backed-up by default as for iOS, there is no way to tell if you back up to iCloud or iTunes. As most users have the default 5GB of iCloud storage, VLC would easily exceed that, so the option is off by default.

Got it.
If I turn the option on, then will a local iTunes backup keep the contents of VLC folder?

Yes, with this option on, iTunes will backup the contents of VLC locally.

Got it.
However it makes sense to somehow warn and remind users that the backup option is turned off.

I'm not sure how to do that. An alert once you synchronise the first file will be clicked away and forgotten.

Agree.
Is it worth turning the option on by default?
