Hi Felix, I posted in another thread about the SMB/UPnP problems I've been having with the 3.5.x releases on my 3rd gen ATV 4K. For me it's only this device that's still having problems. My 2nd gen was having issues as well but they were fixed by 3.5.4.

What's the best way to get this info to you?

First of all, thank you for the bug fixes for the Apple TV so far.

I installed version 3.5.7 on my Apple TV yesterday. The favorites actually work well with it, most of the problems are gone.

The only thing that still doesn't work: the favorites still don't survive a hard restart of the app, i.e. when you swipe the app out of the app switcher and thus close it completely. After restarting the app, all favorites have disappeared.

Hello,

Thanks for the report, we actually forgot to include the patch for this issue in the 3.5.7!

You can expect a new version soon with the promised fix on tvOS, sorry again for the inconvenience

I have two more comments on the playback menu on the Apple TV. Not dramatic, but still a glitch:

If a movie contains chapter information, the playback menu is displayed very large when the chapter tab is opened. If you then switch to another tab, for example 'Playback', it looks quite stretched and unattractive.

In the 'Media information' tab, the number of audio tracks and subtitles is always too high.

I love the new update. I use the VLC player on my iPhone, and almost every feature is working remarkably. However for some reason, playback speed causes the video (file wmv) to lag and won’t play the specific a-b loop I set up. That is the only feature I found to have a small issue. I also wanted to request a feature which I’ve not seen on any other media player before. We have an a-b loop, and bookmarks, but what if we could bookmark loops that went like a-b, c-d, e-f, and so on. I think that feature would be amazing and could develop VLC into an app video editors can utilize greatly. Thank you so much for updating the player.

I have a question: in the new version, there is also the option of loading external audio or external subtitles on the Apple TV during playback. How does this work? When I click on the corresponding menu items, nothing happens.

I am running VLC version 3.5.8 on my first generation Apple TV 4K with tvOS 17.4.
Unfortunately, when connecting to my SMB server I can‘t see any folders. All I get is the empty folder message in VLC. When using VLC on my iPad I can connect to the same smb server without any issues.
Any clues?

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback, this feature is not supposed to be available on tvOS as there is no proper local storage.

The next patch will remove these two unusable cells.

Is it possible to add an option to load external subtitles from another source? For example icloud, google drive? Or ftp server like kodi

The iOS version of VLC does not play MP3 lyrics. I used MiniLyrics to create MP3 with lyrics, and the Windows platform can display the lyrics. I hope to support MP3 lyrics of VLC on the iOS platform

I was previously able to use VLC to play local
.MTS files from my iPhone’s Files app. Since the update they are grayed out and can’t be opened. Is this a bug? Thanks!

UPN issue with VLC 3.6.0 on AppleTV 4K (fixed)

Postby mrbig » 22 Aug 2024 10:11

Hi all,

For information, I discovered yesterday this issue on my AppleTV 4K (A2169) running TvOS 17.6: the UPNP servers on my network are not visible in VLC 3.6.0

On another Apple TV (A1625), TvOS 17.6, VLC 3.6.0 => UPNP servers are visible
both Apple TV are on teh same network, with the standard settings from VLC.

After installing TvOS 17.6.1 on the apple TV 4K (A2169): the issue is fixed, I can see the UPNP servers in VLC 3.6.0

Belated thank you to the VLC team for the 3.6.x release(s) that finally fixed the issue that skipped some tracks, double-played others, and inevitably crashed.
