VLC 3.0.1 H.265 Video freeze, audio keeps playing

As we can see in many of these reports for years, people are saying that the same files are playing fine on the same machine with other players.
So it's obviously not a driver or hardware issue.

Those who give you those answers have no ears, and even less brains!!!
THIS IS A CLEAR VLC BUG!!!
Which the development team either doesn't know (sounds strange!), or deems it useless to solve, stop!

Once and for all, with the exact same H265/AAC file,
1. if SM-Player displays it without problems, and continues to do so after pause/play/pause/play
2. if MPC-BE/HC display it without problems, and continue to do so after pause/play/pause/play
3. if VLC 3.0.20, without HW-Acceleration OFF, displays it, and continues to do so after pause/play/pause/play
4. if VLC 3.0.20, with HW-Acceleration ON, displays it, but freezes video, with only audio playing, after pause/play/pause/play

Why, again, deny the evidence?

Nobody said that it was for sure not a VLC bug. I said that it looked more likely to be a display driver bug (and I stand by that statement).

It should be utterly obvious, but shouting and shaming volunteers such as I, is not conducive to getting them to help you. So with that said, I will be waiting for your patches proving that it was a VLC bug.

Have the same issue on VLC 3.0.20 playing video file:

On my GTX 670 video card. (i7 3820)

without hwdecoding - it's good (big load on CPU, low load on GPU) (the same is then opening file with MPC-HC(x64))
with - video freezes. (big load on GPU, low load on CPU)


May be it's not a VLC bug, but bug of the driver. But may be it's possible to do a workaround.


In VLC logs there's a message that says that my video card supports HEVC (as I understand that says the driver). But that's not so.(how says https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_PureVideo)

If found topic there's the same driver bug, and a workaround is too use cuda to know is there the support for hevc or not:

May be that will help to resolve the issue for this good player, VLC. Especially for HEVC on slow video cards.

I upgraded both VLC to 3.0.21 and Nvidia Drivers to 555.99 (RTX 4060)... and the problem magically disappeared

Now i can play HEVC/h265 A/V, pause, and play keeps on going after restarting, both Audio & Video... no more freeze!!!

Issue still persists

3) Go to fullscreen [F/doubleclick video]
4) Pause
5) Wait some seconds, 2/5 seconds (repeat step 4 / 5 in case)
6) Resume
7) FREEZE!!!

I'm not sure what is causing the issue, but it's most definitely a VLC Player bug.

Just for the heck of it, I installed the MPC-BE player and it works perfectly without me changing a single setting. No freezing, no artifacts after pause/resuming and no more issues where the audio keeps playing for 2 seconds after pausing.

My specs:
Intel i7 13700k CPU
Nvidia RTX 4080 GPX Card
32GB DDR5 Ram
4TB WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD
