Unable to see my disc in VLC interface

I setup my OWC M-DISC external drive today. It's working because I can successfully play a DVD in the native macOS DVD app. But when I go into VLC, nowhere do I see an icon representing the disc that is currently in the drive. I've tried a simple music CD as well as a DVD movie. The disc does successfully show up in the Finder, and I can click the button to eject it as well.

I would upload a screenshot, but it appears that his forum does not support uploads.

So it does not show up in the File > Open Disc dialog?
