Refuses to play next song on list or in folder

Worked with HP windows 11.
Now using lenovo also windows 11.

Plays one song over and over...
I've tried taking working copy of VLC from other machine, I've tried a fresh download... no good.

Please suggest.

Sounds like you have enabled playlist repeat mode.

I don't know what was enabled... but the player wasn't repeating the playlist, it was simply repeating the first song on the list.

After I went back to the house yesterday, I was able to solve...

Real simple solution....
Click start... Click all apps... Click videolan ...
Click reset preferences and cache...

Easy!
Too bad I was trying to fix from the back end...

You had playlist repeat mode enabled, and resetting the preferences disabled it.

Sorry... I didn't care what was causing the issue as much as I was searching for a way to make it stop.
I clicked everything on the player looking for a solution...

Maybe consider adding that link to the player somewhere in the future?

And... Shouldn't playlist repeat have repeated entire playlist?
That would have been acceptable to me... Playing the first song on the playlist over and over was the problem....
I wanted the rest of the list played.

That's the part that doesn't make sense to me, even with the responses you all have kindly offered... It's not making sense how the player could get stuck on the first song.

Err, I hate to state the obvious but VLC has three modes: no loop, loop all playlist, and repeat current item. Most other players work the same way (leaving aside random).

I still can not find how to change those settings.
This morning it was back on repeat current item... I never want that setting... I'd be thrilled to be able to find and squash.

I'm sure that you are saying something that's perfectly obvious to you, and If I could find this in the controls, I wouldn't have started this thread.
It's back to playing the same song on repeat.
This is 3.0.20
I may just uninstall and try to install the version that worked...

3.0.17.4 is now working on my laptop the way that I expect it to.

Still don't know what was the problem with the other one or why I couldn't get any suggestions on this forum.

As far as working the same as any other media player?
I think not.
If I wanted to use windows media, I would have to deal with "unknown artist" On the songs... and being told that I didn't have "permission" to correct.

Not seeing a right click help window, not seeing any feed back information after clicking button to suggest that anything happened...
