installing without appstore

as apple has successfully made this ipod touch useless, so that it's not possible to install anything from the app store, anyone with any tips on how to install vlc and not use that 'store'. this is a native ipod, with ios 6.

You need to jailbreak it and then you'll be able to install an older release of VLC-iOS that should still work ok.

As well, any comments or ideas on your suggestion to jailbreak would be deeply appreciated. I know there are many ways about it, but perhaps there is a way that is known to work well with VLC-iOS. I thank you.

The last VLC-iOS version to support iOS 6.1 was 2.6.6 released in 2015. You can still download it here: http://download.videolan.org/videolan/vlc-iOS/2.6.6/

There are no specifics about jailbreaking and VLC. Any method will work.
