VLC player disrupted (probably caused by windows issue)

Postby Ivanatis » 15 Apr 2024 00:32

Hello,

I am looking for people who have maybe had a similar issue with the player. I must say right away that the VLC error I am getting is a consequence for something going wrong in windows and not the cause of the issue. I reinstalled VLC entirely and the issue is still the same.

Whenever I start a media file in vlc, I have it that after 2 or 3 minutes, it stops and apparently jumps back to the beginning and on top is the notification that I can jump to the point where I was if I click it, but it keeps flickering and same is true for the play button, it moves so quickly back and forth between the Play arrow and the II for pause as if it tries really hard to progress, but is thrown back every time.
Often it also happens right after opening the file really at the very beginning. One thing I noticed there is that vlc does not open in front as it should when it is working really fine. It opens behind the folder where I double-clicked the file. Sometimes also behind other stuff/windows I have open that I just need to minimize them or move them out of the way to see the vlc window.

The files are not corrupt. I tried them in Windows Player and they work fine there. But VLC has always been my first player and I dont wanna change.

I must say that I had another issue for a while that may have something to do with that. In the task bar, when I have a tab that includes two elements of the same class, like two word files or also two folders, then I often have the problem that if I click it, I can choose neither. Nothing happens when I click on any of the two previews or the previews do not even appear. This started happening around the same time like the vlc issue, so I don't know, maybe vlc is somehow colliding with the task bar problem (even if I of course only have one media file open at the same time). By the way, it is also not important if it is a video file or an audio file or whatever and I have not installed any new software lately and also did full virus scan that showed no infections. I also tried a clean boot and the problem still shows up. And I also did sfc/scannow and dism. Did not help either.

Anybody has an idea or maybe faced a similar issue?

First, reboot your computer, then reset the preferences (the manual way) and try again:

Okay I reset the preferences and sadly it is still the same issue.
By the way I recognized that once I press ESC when the error happens, it jumps back to the start and sometimes manages to relaunch the video without error, but just for a couple minutes until it happens again. Thought this maybe could play a role because if I click ESC during normal vlc process, nothing happens.

Please run VLC from the command prompt with this command line for creating a log file:

Code: Select all

C:\path\to\vlc\vlc.exe --extraintf=logger --verbose=2 --logfile=C:\temp\vlc.log --logmode=text --file-logging

and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

The destination folder must already exist and make sure that you have full access rights to it.

Thanks lotesdelere, today I have not had the error yet. I will do so once it shows up again. Have a nice day!

As requested, please post the whole full log from the very beginning to the very end.
Post it on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long for the forum.

I don't see anything strange in this log, something on your PC must interact with VLC. Do you have an extra input device like a tablet ?

I only have another computer to be on the safe side when this one is not working for whatever reason. But yeah you are probably right, it is not a VLC issue, but something related to the system. I installed KMPlayer after realizing that it is literally impossible to use subtitles with Legacy Windows Media Player and I had the same issue as well with KM Player after a little while that it stops. There has to be something broken in my Windows system that interferes with media players. Legacy Windows Media Player is apparently working properly, but maybe it is the only one.
