VLC Player Video Snapshot/Picture/Thumbnail Display

Postby Taneeco » 12 Apr 2024 07:27

What setting controls whether or not a picture/thumbnail of a video is displayed in the main VLC player when the video is running outside the player (‘Embedded video’ not selected)?

Some of the videos display a picture in the main VLC player window while the video plays outside the player. Others do not.

If this is the ‘Display video snapshot preview’ setting (which is enabled), why is the display of the 'snapshot' inconsistent?

I do not know how to attach a screenshot to show an example of my issue. Hopefully, this desciption makes sense.

Thanks.

For posting screenshots you must use a third party hosting site like https://postimages.org or https://imgur.com

Thanks for the tip 'Lotesdelere'. Let's see if I do this right.
The attached screenshot/link are to two (2) running VLC media files. Both with the videos are running external to the player.
Note that 'Video 1' has a thumbnail in the player, identifying the playing window. Video 2 does not have a thumbnail.
What or can I do anything so that all videos have a thumbnail?
Thanks.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of your original problematic file to WeTransfer.com or Disroot.org and then post the link to the file here.

Again, thanks for the quick response, 'Lotesdelere'. Happy to oblige.

However, of "...upload a short sample of your original problematic file..."

What is a 'problematic' file?

Thanks for educating the ignorant. :)
