How to stop auto update and looking for app to force stop vlc

I installed vlc 3.0.5 from apk that I have on Android 11. However, it auto updates to a different version. I don't want a different version. I want the version that I installed, 3.0.5. The reason I don't want an updated version is that I can easily x out vlc when I am finished using version 3.05. See

There is an x and when tapping the x, vlc disappears from the notification panel. The updated version of vlc has no x, (just pause,forward,next etc) and so the vlc software just remains on the notification panel which bothers me. The only way to eliminate the notification on the updated vlc is to force stop the software which takes a lot of taps on the screen. Alternatively, is there an app that can be set to force stop vlc with one tap?

Recent versions of VLC have Settings > Audio > Stop on application swipe

Check this option and then with two gestures (press Recents, slide the VLC entry off the screen) VLC will give up the screen AND the separate audio playback process will also end. This will erase the Notification.

Ok, thank you for the response. When the vlc3.0.5 updates ( could be a few weeks, seems random), I will try what you said and report back

I don't like auto-updates; from my standpoint, they break stuff that worked. But VLC has never auto-updated on me, and I don't see a user setting in my VLC (3.6.0 Beta) to either enable or disable it. I get my APKs from Videolan; F-Droid likes to at least pester you that new versions are available, and I don't know if the Play Store auto-updates you.

An app cannot forbid/allow auto-updates. You will have to change your store (Play Store, Amazon Appstore, F-Droid, ...) settings to avoid auto updates. As we distribute the exact same version of the app (signed with the same key) everywhere except on F-Droid as they are building and signing themselves. So, if you download the app anywhere except on F-Droid (or for nightly versions), you will be able to update it from anywhere (except from F-Droid obviously).

Apps from F-Droid don't auto-update unless you use the F-Droid app; they warn you about this as an inducement to get the app.

Ok, thank you (Spike1). Vlc auto updated from the apk on the phone, version 3.0.5 to 3.5.4. and your method (second posting in this thread) worked to get vlc off the notification screen.
