Videos selected from "Media Library" aren't saved to "Recently Played"

Postby t1337dude » 03 Dec 2023 09:15

Here's an issue I'm having. So, for example, if I select any video in File Explorer, it will show in my VLC "Recently Played" list (accessible from the start menu). It will also save and resume playback, which is a desirable feature.

But in my case, I like to have lists of videos (seasons). If I create a playlist normally, everything works as expected. Unfortunately, the playlist isn't persistent and has to be manually saved and reloaded (or recreated) every single time I open up VLC. Pretty lame, right? What's the point of a playlist if you have to constantly load or recreate it? Could you imagine doing that every time you open up your favorite music program? But I digress...

I've discovered that the "Media Library" acts as a persistent playlist. Sweet deal. Except one important detail - any video loaded from the Media Library doesn't show up as a recently played file. This also means that the save and resume playback feature doesn't work, because that feature is tied to the "recently played" feature. Is this a bug? Or is there a way I can use "Media Library", while having it remember my recently played files?

Anyone know of a plugin or solution that keeps the history of recently played videos? It just seems wild to me that VLC has been around so long, but lacks any sort of working persistent playlist or way to keep track of videos.
