VLC Hotkeys MacOS

Postby ChanoLB » 03 Dec 2023 00:58

I can't change the hotkeys of the VLC player. In the menu there is no view to change the existing hotkeys, see picture. What do I have to do?

The idea of changing the hotkeys sounds awesome! Don't they share how to do it on that post?

No unfortunately this is just a picture of a post on Reddit that I wrote myself. It's about the same problem. You can also find on google that there is a possibility for the Windows application. But everything is different in the Mac version. I can only slow down with cmd + "-" but not faster. Very annoying...

Hello,

You can change the hotkeys in VLC's preferences just fine on macOS. However, do not do that in the advanced preferences but in the simple ones.

It would be interesting to know about this in a bit more details :) I found one tutorial on YouTube, but it was made about 7 years ago. So, obviously, things have changed. I don't know how about you, but my menu there looks a bit different then on this video I found at https://youtu.be/vWnjFSeFgPk?si=x9Enf_wG_dbh4FT5 .

Ah, careful, VLC on Mac does NOT support global hotkeys except for the physical keys on your keyboard / Touch Bar. Those keys cannot be configured. However, the hotkeys when VLC is in focus can simply be changed with the regular (not the advanced) Preferences in the VLC menu.

Anyway, plenty of hotkeys already exist. I found a list of 60 hotkeys for VLC Mac. Here's the list: https://tutorialtactic.com/keyboard-sho ... tcuts-mac/
Do you really need that many unless your job is related to music production and promotion?

omg you are absolutely right. I had not fully opened the settings window. With the window set to full you can also see the keyboard shortcuts, among other things. Thank you very much

Well, I'm glad to be helpful. But when I found that source with all the hotkeys, I was pleasantly surprised that there were so many of them. Of course, I don't need all of them, but it's good to have some options.
