Conversion problem with video cutting (film.m2ts)

Postby Lemontespan » 29 Nov 2023 20:15

French English translation / Windows 7 and VLC 3.0.20

Good morning,
I am cutting a video
Media / Convert Save / File / Add / "Film.m2ts"
Show more options / I indicate the Start Time and End Time of the video to be cut.
Convert Record / Video: H264 + MP3 (MP4)
Encapsulation method: MP4 - MOV
Video Codec: H264 Audio codec: MP3 Subtitle: not used
Destination file To start up
The result is correct.

I make a second cut a little later in the video
I modify the Start Time and End Time of the video to be cut then the Destination File.
And finally Start.
Result: I have the sound and not the video!?

I start the whole second cut again after leaving VLC
Result: The video and sound are correct but I also have the sound of the subtitles!?

What should be done ?

Maybe you should exit and restart VLC between each cut.
But there are other reports about conversion issues.

Try with a nightly build:
https://nightlies.videolan.org

Or use a dedicated video tool such as AviDemux:

Hello and thank you for the reply.

First, I tried Avidemux.
I have successfully performed several video cuts on a .m2ts file.
I continued with a second .m2ts file. But when establishing the plot, it crashed!
I tried on a second computer. Same result!
So I looked at converters on the internet. I noticed that several brands of converters (around ten!) offered VLC first.
I followed the methods presented for using VLC.
- The methods were erroneous or based on VLC flaws in order to choose their products.
So I continued with using VLC.
I got some good results (2 times out of 5)
I also tried closing VLC.
In my opinion, I think VLC keeps some data in memory. Wouldn't it be possible to delete them while waiting for the problem to be resolved by VLC?

With Avidemux you must start the cut on an I-Frame:

I'm not sure if VLC is automatically doing that or not.

With Avidemux, the first film to cut and merge was ok.
When I loaded the second film to be cut into Avidemux, the software should normally create the index. (An.idx file is created).
But a window appeared indicating that he could not create the index!?
I removed this second film and tried a third film.
Another window appeared (to indicate that it is not working).
Not knowing if Avidemux will be able to create the .idx file with each loaded movie, I uninstalled it and tried VLC.

To return to the problem of the second film, Avidemux failed to create the index.
VLC failed to perform the cuts correctly (no sound or no image or voice from the subtitling in addition).
BUT playing this movie.m2ts with VLC has no problem on the computer.
AND basically, this .m2ts film recorded on a box with its own .idx file posed no playback problem with its integrated player.

Several years ago, I tried video conversion software while I had Windows XP.
I had to reinstall Windows several times.
I still found decent software "Format Factory".
I had to convert the .ts file to AVI then do the cutting and merging.
To this day, I no longer use it because it is no longer suitable for Windows Seven.
I'm not so tempted to install and uninstall software that would eventually slow down my PC.
