when I pause a video to much VLC freezes

When I pause a video to much VLC freezes and I then have to close the video and open it back up again. Any ideas on what I can do to avoid this.

What is drive H: ? A network drive ? An USB drive ?
Is it any better if you're playing the file from your local drive where the OS is installed ?

an external hard drive. It's where the video file I watched was

I wouldn't know. Most of my video files are on external hard drives

The drive doesn't freeze

Edit: For what it's worth I started having problem with vlc when I got a new computer and had to reinstall it on it.

When I got my new pc F drive seems to work in unison with c drive but I coudn't tell you the details. it's not usb though I can tell you that much.
Vlc does freeze AFTER pausing but only SOMETIMES

I am running windows 11, and VLC is likely installed to my C drive (system partition), even though you may have media files on external drives
