I'm using VLC 0.8.4a and a nightly build, the stream works with both versions.

i have the same problems

i have exactly the same problem. i use windows xp home with service pack 2 in combination with vlc player, witch i have downloaded from the following location :

http://mirrors.ircam.fr/pub/videolan/vl ... -win32.exe

it's the windows selfinstallation package. so i thought, after installation i'm able to ply some of mine favorite stations, including those ".pls" ones... but it did not work for me too...

those are the main warnings :

access_http debug: Icy-Notice:
This stream requires Winamp
access_http debug: Icy-Notice: SHOUTcast Distributed Network Audio Server/Linux v1.9.5
access_http error: failed to read answer
.
.
.
access_mms error: invalid HTTP reply 'ICY 200 OK'

it seem's to me, that this version of vlc cannot handle this special http answer, wich is send from the "SHOUTcast Distributed Network Audio Server".

this a free server from "Nullsoft" :
http://www.shoutcast.com/

i have no problems to access those "special" streams with winamp.

i hope this information is helping someone.

cu... and excuse my bad english. i'm a german who never really need to speak english.

I realize this thread is going on 3-years-old. But I've been having this exact same problem. I've tried a few versions of VLC and get the same errors. I get similar results in foobar2000 (same streams fail there that fail in vlc). I'm stuck using windows media player to play such streams.

Has anyone figured out what is going on with that? Am I missing some library or something?

access_http debug: Icy-Notice:
This stream requires Winamp
You also get those same messages, or different ones?

I get the invalid HTTP reply bit about "ICY"... For example, when I try to play folkalley.com's stream:

Code: Select all

main error: Read error: Connection reset by peer access_http error: failed to read answer main error: Read error: Connection reset by peer access_http error: failed to read answer access_mms error: invalid HTTP reply 'ICY 200 OK' main error: open of `http://66.225.205.8/' failed: could not create access
That same stream works in Windows Media Player.

I can, however, play wcpe.org's mp3 stream with vlc just fine. I think the difference is the ICY protocol?
