Drops in flac/m4a playback

I am having random drops when playing both FLAC and m4a (Apple lossless) music files. I believe the flaw is in VLC since the same files play with no drops in COG. Can anybody here suggest a cause/fix. Has anyone here also experienced this?

This is a bug in VLC 3.0.18. The forthcoming 3.0.19 that is almost ready will have a fix. For meantime, consider using 3.0.17.
