Hotkey for toggling subtitles on/off, not cycling with "S"

Postby JordashZB » 20 Aug 2023 09:41

VLC 3.0.18
MacOS 13.4.1

Hello!
I know there is a very similar post from 2014 but my ask is a little different.

It appears there is no hotkey to toggle subtitles ON/OFF during playback, while remembering the selected subtitle during "ON" position.
Is that correct?

So, is there a way to assign new hotkeys or ask someone to create a hotkey for this purpose?

Example: .mkv file has 20 subtitles included. I want to access the 1st subtitle track on demand, only during certain moments of playback, with the keyboard. Currently, to do this, I press the "S" key to cycle from Subtitle OFF to Subtitles [first subtitle]. Then to turn "off" the subtitle via keyboard hotkey, I must press "S" key 19 times to cycle back to Subtitle OFF.

Thank you for your assistance! I apologize for my ignorance!

Moving ticket to the macOS tracker where it belongs.

Yes, iOS is not macOS :) No problem with that.

Your request is an interesting one. Try shift-S instead of S. That should do it. Alternatively, press alt-s to cycle through the subtitles tracks in reverse order.
