VLC crashing only when playing back remux files

Postby road hazard » 20 Aug 2023 03:42

Running a fresh install of Debian 12 and VLC 3.0.18 Vetinari.

I can use VLC to play back 720p/1080p versions of TV shows and movies with zero problems. But, every, single time I try and play a 1080p -=REMUX=- file, VLC crashes:

VLC doesn't seem to like playing back remux files. Using an i7 7700K CPU, 16 gigs of ram. I stink at reading dmesg logs. Intel video driver problem?

The crash is taking place inside the Intel HD device drivers.

Uninstall libvdpau-va-gl. That's a notorious piece of crap.

I didn't have that EXACT package rather: libvdpau-va-gl1 but I'm guessing it's all the same?

The good news is, that did indeed fix it. Thank you so much!!

This system is my Plex server and I'm using the onboard Intel video but everything appears to be AOK after I removed that package. Any long term problem that might bite me down the road by removing it?
