VLC settings - output modules - OSX - display primaries

Postby sunlit777 » 31 Jul 2023 17:20

I was checking today again if by any chance VLC has enabled mac display profiles support so that we could actually use it on a Mac system. Sadly it is still not color managed by default (meaning that 100% modern mac users are still getting wrong oversaturated colors). However I've found hidden in the extended preferences a pane for display output modules - OSx tab which has the settings relevant to color conversion but I have no idea which settings to choose for my Mac display since it does not list the actual Mac display profiles but a different list of options (see screenshot). I can choose DCI-P3 as main color primaries space, but the gamma option is more intricate - there is no exact setting for mac display gamma. Setting rendering intent to saturation and gamma to srgb SRT emulation brings it very close to accurate colors, but not quite. There's zero info on the internet regarding these settings in VLC. Can anyone help please?
