9 of 10 video snapshots are green

Postby basspig » 17 Jul 2023 04:07

When I grab a snapshot of a paused video, usually I'll get one good frame written to disc. Subsequent frames will appear to be grabbed normally (the thumbnail in the upper left of the VLC screen looks fine) but the file written to disc is a green frame. If I keep clicking the the grab (camera) icon a dozen times, I'll get a good grab out of that dozen or so.
I upgraded from 3.0.4 to 3.0.6 and the problem persists.
The video plays fine and no green video at all, just the frames captured to disc are green.
What could be causing that?

Try another video output module:

You can also try with and without hardware acceleration.

I rotated through a bunch of the video output options and found one that consistently works: open GL. I was able to write 4 out of 4 frames in a row without green screen. Thank you.

I experienced issues with green screnn instead of VLC snapshot images this evening 03/12/2024. I restarted my windows 10 laptoponly to return to the dreaded "Microsoft windows is configuring your updates do not switch off your computer" message. When my laptop eventually became available I obtained a perfect VLC snapshot on the same video that prior to Windows update had produced a green screen.
I therefore suspect the issue might be windows graphics handling related.
