When 3.5 mm jack is plugged it (earbuds) should VLC use the proximity sensor and turn off the screen in your pocket?

On a bicycle enjoying my music when suddenly the track gets skipped, or jumps ahead, or stuff like that. Turns out my screen was still on when I put my phone in my pocket and now my leg is interacting with VLC.

Should VLC make use of the proximity sensor when using earbuds?
