NAS Problem With Having To Enter Login and Password Repeatedly

Postby JEFromCanada » 03 Mar 2021 01:56

I stream videos to VLC from my NAS. Before I enter EACH and EVERY folder to get to the video(s) I want to play, I am prompted to enter the username and password for my NAS. The "Remember password" box is checked, so why does this occur? When I come back out of VLC and back in, I have to enter the username and password for the entire set of folders all over again. Why?

I have the same problem, too, since the last version. 2 months ago you only had to fill in password and username one time at the beginning and not in each folder. I didn't mark the save password option.
Has anyone a solution to this? Thanks!

Did you try unchecking the "Settings > Advanced > Prefer SMB 1" preference?

Hello Aza,
Thanks for this hint! It was the solution to my problem :D
I'm using VLC from the beginning and it's such a great tool!

The problem is still there despite it being unchecked. For each folder until I get to the video I want to see, I must enter the username and password each time. Once I got to the video I wanted, it recognized I had watched some before and asked if I wanted to continue from where I left off watching or start over, and I chose to have it continue from where I left off watching before, and it asked for my username and password yet again before playing the video from where I left off before.

I uninstalled VLC first and reinstalled it. Eventually this made the difference?

Sorry for the late answer. Could you please provide some logs?

Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).

Hi,
Newbie here.
I can't even get that far, I have just installed a new Google Chromecast TV4K and installed the VLC App on it.
My issue is I can see all the folders on my NAS, but I can't login with the user name and password.
It is requesting/suggesting "DOMAIN/user name" and then the password, I don't frankly understand what it is asking for?
Can someone please explain the format for entering the login information thanks?

Cheers
Tex

Using Firestick4K - This is also happening when connecting to my windows 10 shares & windows 11 shares. Both PC's are set up with no password required and worked perfectly with the previous version of VLC. The only way to stop this is to stop the app & restart it. Then you can browse to 5 or 6 folders before it starts looping through the username/password entry. Its made streaming music a bit tricky, to say the least.
