Playing stream in VLC?

Postby Hard Of Hearing » 06 Feb 2023 22:49

I would like to play a video stream in VLC, but, it seems there is a problem with the URL.

Guessing the URL needs to be stripped?

If not, what do I need to do (I generally know how to do this, eg for Youtube).

URL is : https://stream-1-1-ip6.loadshare.org/sl ... 4873799fe0

Code: Select all

tcp: Failed to resolve hostname stream-1-1-ip6.loadshare.org

Looks like this host name is not valid.

I got the URL from the webpage by...(Firefox)

Padlock to the left of URL bar -> Connection secure -> More information -> Media

...then copied the video URL.

Have I done that part wrong?

I don't know how it works on the site, maybe they are using temporary host names. But what I know is that this host name is not resolved by any DNS servers I've tried, whatever program I've tried for trying to open this URL.

Hmmm...you could be right about that.

I went back and grabbed the URL again just in case I hadn't grabbed the whole thing or something...and it's slightly different...I've posted the first part of both for comparison...

https://stream-1-1-ip6.loadshare.org/sl ... episode-08....

https://stream-1-1-ip6.loadshare.org/sl ... episode-08....

For the record, what I used to do was grab the video itself with Firefox add-on, VideoDownloadHelper then watch in VLC (my username may be a clue as to why I don't just watch in Firefox). This worked a charm.

Sadly, said add-on (now deleted from my Firefox) now asks you to pay for an extra EXE file to do the job for most videos...the few it can grab on it's own now come out grainy with a huge watermark which, again, you have to pay to get removed.

So what now?

Most web pages isnt supported on vlc, when you try to play the url. I tried it also
with other video-hosting websites, and I saw that vlc cannot run videos from them.
So if there any extension script that you can use, it might get fixed.
