I want to help test but the newest filename in nightly/armv7 (2023-01-29) still identifies as Beta 1. My one phone that has this bug has a Nightly installed; it will complicate everything to install both orange and green VLC. If you can get the fix into a Nightly, I'll take it and report.
I have 2023-01-29 and the main bug hasn't appeared.
To continue the test, I uninstalled, reinstalled, and went to my folder of 30 subfolders on SD card. It remains true that, if a selected folder is scrolled off the screen during discovery, scrolling back shows it as unselected. This is more than a display error, as VLC didn't find all my music. Also, the auto-discovery option enabled itself. Workaround is to select only folders visible on screen and don't scroll until discovery is complete, then scroll and check additional folders; now the file count is correct.
I checked my install, it shows: last updated November 3, 2022 — not sure that version that is. I didn't sign-up for Beta (so far), so I am wondering if there is a new public release pending that might fix the folder dropping issues...

Android 13, vlc beta 2 (last nights version) not collecting all folder contents on automatic discovery from microsd ram. Folder titles and working contents on 20% of folders, the rest, the folder title only.
I don't understand your meaning @GeneralKarl, are you speaking about the folder subtitle that shows the folder's content (ie number of subfolders, and number of media) ? And which view in the app are you speaking about ?
Hi, we have worked on a fix, that is currently in 3.5.4 Beta 2, could you try it, and tell us if the new version solves your issue please ?
Currently running 3.5.4 Beta 2, cleared the database, reset the app, and tried again. Everything now works as expected, my library menus are populated and no issues with playback.
