Casting to Panasonic TV

Postby QueryMan » 31 Jan 2023 09:49

Hi,
This is my first post in VLC forum.
I would like to ask if it is VLC limitation or maybe it is a ways to achieve my goal.
So, I have Android 13 smartphone with latest VLC app installed and when I'm starting watching movie locally stored on the phone I have a possibility to cast this movie to the Sony Bravia TV that is detected on my home LAN but another TV which is also connected to my home LAN is not detected - Panasonic OLED TV.
I know Sony Bravia TV is chromecast compatible TV and this is why it is detected by VLC but Panasonic TV is DLNA compatible device so is it that VLC cant stream/cast a content to DLNA device?

It's indeed not possible. Casting is only available to Chromecast devices in the Android app.

Thanks for response.
Is it a plan to make it possible?

I don't think so.

EDIT: My bad. There may be a solution in the future. @Alaric, can you confirm?

Casting on DLNA renderer devices will be available in VLC 4. You can already test it with the nightly desktop version!

This is really great news!
Looking forward for VLC 4 for Android with this feature.
In the meantime I'm going to test how it works in the Windows nightly version.
Thanks a lot... and I'm going also to add donate link to my favorites links in my browser :-)

I have installed vlc-4.0.0-dev-win64-dfde8b0e.exe (downloaded from https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc/nigh ... 0202-0424/) on my Windows 11 machine and unfortunately only Sony Bravia TV is found but Panasonic TV is not.
On other hand when I right-click on a movie file and select "Cast To Device" I can see Panasonic TV and sending the video file there works.
If there is anything else I can do for troubleshooting this issue with casting to Panasonic DLNA TV on latest VLC nightly version then let me know.

We are under "Android and Chrome". When you mention "desktop", you mean Chrome? Or cross-platform?

Thanks a lot for testing, could you provide us the logs of you trying to discover the Panasonic TV (ctrl-M + verbose) ? When you say your TV isn't found, are you talking about the `Playback->renderer` menu?

The nighlties are available here :)
You can probably try here for android/chromebook but be aware that these versions are not stable at all. Testing on windows/linux is probably easier.

Yes, Playback ->renderer
It is scanning for around 20 seconds and is finaly only Sony TV found.

From Windows 11 machine Panasonic TV is discovered and available to cast to it:

The same is with latest Android version - Panasonic TV is not detected. Only Sony TV

Debug Log file taken when renderer discovery was running:

No response.
To me it looks like casting from Android phone to Panasonic TV using UPnP is not even included in the latest nightly build so why I have been asked to test?
