Can't connect to local media shares from iPad

Postby ricecrispies » 22 Dec 2022 13:52

When I try to connect to the UP'n'P media shares on my laptop (running Ubuntu) from my iPad, all I see in VLC for iPad is "RygelContentDirectory?ObjectID-0", a search box, and nothing else. Originally this could have been explained by the fact that I didn't have Rygel configured correctly on the laptop, but now it is definitely working; I am able to connect to the media library from VLC running on the laptop, and I definitely have Rygel configured to be accessible via the wireless LAN.

I suspect, based on the trouble I have also had getting the VLC network browser to show up-to-date information about local SMB shares, that it may simply be that VLC is simply not picking up that the server is now properly accessible. But, whether that is the case or not, it is certainly not dealing with those media shares properly. How can I fix this?

EDIT:
I tried deleting and reinstalling the app. Now the shares from the Ubuntu laptop no longer appear in the VLC network browser at all (although the shares from my router still do). However, I have also confirmed that I can access them using VLC running on a Mac on the same network.

So VLC shows SMB shares but not the UPnP shares? Did you grant permission to VLC in the iOS Settings to detect devices on the local network?
