Play two mono tracks as stereo pair

I have a file with eight mono tracks - which means eight tracks with one channel each.
They are arranged as four stereo pairs - channel one is left, channel two is right and so on.
How can I listen to track one and track two as a stereo pair?
I can only select one track in VLC.

Not 100% sure about this but it might be doable with the stream output options on command line

Anyway I can't confirm you'll be able to mix two elementary streams and map them to a stereo channels layout
