3.5.3 - I Have To Restart App After Pausing Audio

I have been using VLC on Pixel 6 as main audio player for over a year now. Normally if I pause music I can restart from controls on headphones (usually pixel buds pro or Bose AE2 soundlink) with no issues and even if I shut down app part way through an album when I connect earphones the following day and tap to start it resumes from where I left off even if I haven't opened app yet.
Unfortunately I saw 3.5.3 was available and installed it and none of this happens. If I pause music now I can't restart using earphones or even controls on phone even if only paused for short while without closing and reopening app. When I reconnect earphones to phone at a later time I now have to open app and click play in app to start playback.
Apologies if this has been reported already but I can't see this in forum or on your issues tracker. I have downgraded to 3.5.2 for the moment. I was liking the fact that you had full integration with new lock screen controls in 3.5.3.

Hi, we've noticed that too, and it was fixed last week, you won't have the issue in the next version 3.5.4, sorry for the inconvenience

Thanks for your reply, glad issue has already been sorted. I'll keep using 3.5.2 until 3.5.4 is available.

I've just tried 3.5.4 beta 1 and I still had the issue. I paused music and waited a few mins and then tried to restart music using lockscreen controls but this had no effect and I had to unlock phone and close and reopen app again to restart music.

My apologies, I misread your first message, and didn't see that you also had the issue with lock screen controls. The fix I mentioned is for Bluetooth controls, can you confirm that it works with your headset ? As for for the lock screen issue, i will look into it, sorry for the inconvenience.

Are you using Android 13 ? I was able to reproduce something similar on an Android 13 Pixel 6a where pressing the play button in the lock screen controls will change the button back to "Pause" but no sound will play. Is that what you are experiencing ?

Thanks, I have a Pixel 6 on Android 13 and was seeing what you are with lockscreen controls. I'll test bluetooth controls on my Bose headphones to see if they are now working again (was using Pixel Buds earlier)

UPDATE: Have tried with other headphones and can now restart using bluetooth controls but have to press play button twice if it's more than a couple of mins but it starts again with one press after a short time on pause.

A further update as have continued to use 3.5.4 beta 1 over the weekend. It looks like most of the functionality has now returned. I put pixel buds in this morning and tapped right ear and music started playing picking up where I left off yesterday (without opening app). I have been able to pause and restart again just by tapping earbuds also on numerous occasions.
It looks like only remaining issue then is the Android 13 media controls not working 100%.

Does this hopefully mean that you have sorted the remaining issue and it should be in 3.5.4 beta 3?

Yes, it's meant to fix this issue. It needs internal testing though but if it's validated, it should be available in the final release of the 3.5.4 version.

I downloaded the nightly version from 9th after merge request in my post above was actioned, have used it for last couple of days and everything now seems to be working with bluetooth and the Android 13 media controls as far as I can see.
