Matroska / H264 Playback lets vlc crash

Postby AtomicWaste » 13 Feb 2006 23:51

I finally got Matroska working (H264 video + 1audio + 1 subtitle) but it uses 40% system performance and sometimes 100% for some seconds.

Really bad is another behaviour of the vlc (or is it the matroska file?) is that when the playback is on certain parts of the file, cpu usage = 100% and messagewindows displays warnings of dropped frames.
After some dropped frames it says "more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow?)". Half a second after that message the vlc terminates itself (on windows 2000 the computer crashes and doesn't reakt to anything).

Even if the Matroska File I have is damaged or in a bad condition, it should never terminate itself in case of an error or (windows 2000) crash the whole system.

Any Ideas why this happens? If i skip some dangerous parts in the file it plays correctly.

EDIT:
I just looked at the terminal messages reported by GTK and VLC just before the crash.
There appears this line:
vlc: h264.c:2594: mc_dir_part: Assertion `pic->data[0]' failed.

well, if you play with fire prepare to get burned...

(this issue was fixed today in ffmpeg, so in a couple days should have made it's way to VLC)
Don't use PMs for support questions.
