No FF or Rewind in 2021 Toyota

Postby VLC_Bob » 31 Jul 2022 22:59

When using VLC 3.5.0 through Android Auto (Android 12, 2021 Toyota Prius) it it not possible to fast forward holding down the steering wheel next or back buttons. It does not work with the head unit either. Holding down the button advances two tracks or skips back two tracks depending on the button.

I have not tested Toyota's long-press behavior via the steering wheel. Indeed, it may not work at all (it is inconsistent across automakers). In 3.5.0 the seek buttons were removed by default from the on-screen UI. You can add the buttons back (in addition to playback speed) under More->Settings->Audio. You can also use voice commands via Google Assistant, too.

Note: Seek time is configurable from 10 seconds to a value between 1-100. Start audio playback on the phone and go to the audio player overflow menu. Select 'Controls Settings' and change the forward/backward time delay. If you go to More->Settings->Interface and enable seek buttons in the notification panel, that same seek time value is also used. The long-press value in the settings menu is exclusively used by the seek buttons in cover mode on the phone UI.
