Only first few seconds of a stream getting saved

Postby hominamad » 27 Mar 2022 05:19

Hi - I'm trying to save an m3u8 stream to mp4. For some reason, no matter what I do, I can only get the first 4 seconds of the stream to save. I can view the whole stream in the player, but it will not save more than 4 seconds. I have read through numerous threads and tried playing with a bunch of different settings, to no avail.

One thing I noticed, when watching the stream, the resolution of the video seems to jump up after 4 seconds. I'm wondering if something is changing in the stream, mid-way that is causing the save to stop? I thought maybe I could get around it by setting the Start Time of the stream to be 10 seconds in, but that features doesn't seem to be working at all.

Hope someone can give some more suggestions. Log file is here: https://pastebin.com/SAq5Rx6t

I can see that it thinks the movie is only 4 secs at the end of the log. Not sure why it thinks that.

Thanks!

Two things:

The resolution of the video is changing because of ther HLS protocol which is checking your bandwidth for delivering the best possible resolution for your connection.

You are trying to transcode a Youtube video to HEVC while playing it live. IMO this is just not possible because HEVC is very slow at encoding and there is no way it can encode at 25 FPS or more, especially while playing another video. Too much CPU and GPU stress.

I was actually able to get it to work finally. I was able to set the Start Time to a few minutes in, and it started on the higher resolution part of the video and converted fine.

Try to check some Adaptive settings (Adaptive Logic, Maximum device height): https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=156390
