Device is missing from Capture Device > Audio Device Name

Postby blahblahblahblahblah » 29 Jul 2022 18:33

I looked at instructions from many, many sites on how to capture audio playing in my computer (such as on a website) and they all say "go to Media > Open capture device > Audio Device Name, and choose your device" but mine isn't listed. What do I do?

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is with the picture here. VLC just lists the available audio input devices.

Do you want the "Bebo" virtual device? That is not a part of VLC. You would need to install what third-party, and I believe commercial, software provides that.

I don't mean that Bebo thing, I mean that none of the choices work. I don't know what my "Device" is but whatever it is, it's not listed. I just want the sound that I hear in the computer. The only one that gives any sound is Microphone which gives you whatever the mic is picking up in the room plus faintly the sound coming out of the laptop speakers .

This just shows the list of audio input devices recognised by Windows. Your microphone is there.

You need to enable Stereo Mix in Windows: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 93#p517833

I don't want microphone. I think my question's unclear so I'm going to start over and rephrase it completely.

My computer doesn't have the things they're talking about. When you right-click the speaker mine doesn't have "show hidden devices" nor does it have "Stereo Mix".

When you right-click the speaker mine doesn't have "show hidden devices" nor does it have "Stereo Mix".

You need to open Recording Devices first.
And then ok, they are called Disabled Devices and not Hidden Devices.
Here is a tutorial showing what to do step by step with pics:
