[FTPes] open network from external fails

Postby ctob » 17 Jul 2022 12:11

Hello all,

I am new to the forum, thanks first for that source of knowledge !

I run VLC 3.0.16 with Mac OS Big Sur, I really love the software that can do all a user expect.

I use a Freebox Revolution and I have activated the external access with TLS and FTP.

I can log to the FTP server from an external IP with Filezilla but I can't find the way to open a video from VLC.

I tried to open network from VLC : ftpes://freebox:mypassword@mydns.freeboxos.fr:18447/Disque\ dur/Vidéos/myvideo.avi

I also tried to use \ to separate spaces. I tried also to find the logs in Mac OS to have a better explanation of the issue but I can't locate it.

I there is a "better" way to access from external (smb share or other please let me know).

Could you please help ?

Thanks,

Regards,

Cyril

Hello Cyril,

You need to encode the URL, otherwise French accents and spaces are not recognised. However, it might be simpler to open the share in Finder when remote and drag the files that you want to play on VLC.

Hello fkuehne,

Thanks a lot for your help, I mounted the Freebox drive with smb (does not work with ftpes or ftps) and that worked fine ! :D

Have a nice evening,

C. Tob
