VLC 3.3.7 for iPad SMB connection issue

Postby fuhaoda » 21 Jun 2022 19:52

Hi,

Thank you for developing VLC. It works amazing well on my MacOS, but still have some issues on my iPad.

I am using iPad Files app (SMB connection) to browse the content, then I click the video that I selected, it will provide an option "Open in VLC" in the top right corner.
Once it is clicked, VLC will be opened. If the file is small (40m), it can be opened in a few seconds. If the file is about 200m, it will take a minute or two. But if the video file is 3G, it will take almost forever to open it.

My guess is that it has to down the file before open it. Is there any easy way that we can open it in s streaming way without downloading?

PS: the open network stream option inside the Network requires to enter a full video address but I can't get the address before I browse my remote server.

how can you be sure your 3G provider isn't throttling after 50MB ?
:!: If you want your problem to be solved :
* First read troubleshooting guide VSG:Main
* Always provide verbose LOGS ! (command line or from gui)
* Always check your issue against a developer build from Nightly Build of VLC
* Tell us when your problem is solved !

For multiple evidence. First, I am using Google nest as my home LAN. VLC perform perfectly on my other devices, such as I am using Mac to connect my server.
Even in iPad, if I use direct streaming (i.e. by providing full address), it plays perfectly.
