Mouse buttons no longer advance/reverse time mark

For some reason the back/forward buttons on my mouse no longer work for the purpose of skipping ahead or back.

I tried the advanced interface settings & it will not let me select these buttons, I've used them for the longest time but the player doesn't seem to recognize them.

Is there a way to fix this?

Which means they are globally used on the OS by another program.

I'll reword that, it's not that it won't let me select them, they do not appear at all in vlc anymore for whatever reason.
Is there some way to fix that?
