is the player transport bar customizable at all?

Postby patrick99e99 » 09 Apr 2022 07:23

Occasionally I would like to use VLC to play DVDs, and one thing that has been driving me crazy is the |<< >>| buttons (next and previous), don't change chapters, but instead they change what's selecting within the playlist...

Is there a way to assign these buttons to chapters instead?

Also, I am using this on a computer hooked to a projector, and only have a mouse, no keyboard-- so keyboard shortcuts are not helpful for me... I need a way to be able to click a button to change chapters, and being in full screen mode, hovering over the top of the screen, waiting for the menu bar to appear, selecting "Playback" and then hovering over "Chapter", and then selecting a chapter, is just not a great user experience...

This is an interesting use-case that is currently not sufficiently supported as you already noticed. I fear that the best is to use the DVD's menu for navigation but that also means leaving the moving, picking a chapter in an often complicated way and then going back.

The arrows in the fullscreen controller are for playlist items only indeed (and for seeking within a movie), which is not helpful here at all. I'm afraid we don't have a good solution for this right now as the buttons cannot be assigned to a different action by the user.
