If VLC can't play these files then VLC can't convert them.

hello, yes I think so too.
My question is: is there any plug-in (or something like that) to be able to open them with vlc? Thanks

No plugin that I know.
But ASF files should play if they are not DRM protected.

Upload a short sample of your original problematic file to Zippyshare.com or to WeTransfer.com and then post the link to the file here.
https://www.zippyshare.com
https://wetransfer.com

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 35#p193335
200 MB max should be enough.

The video of the ASF file is using the old MS MPEG-4 v3 codec and I haven't found yet a player that would play it, not even a DirectShow player.

Code: Select all

Video ID : 2 Format : MPEG-4 Visual Codec ID : MP4S Codec ID/Info : Microsoft MPEG-4 (Windows Media 7.0) Codec ID/Hint : MS MPEG-4 v3 Frame rate : 12.048 FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Audio ID : 1 Format : PCM Codec ID : 1 Bit rate : 128 kb/s Channel(s) : 1 channel Sampling rate : 8 000 Hz Bit depth : 16 bits

The DAV file is playing fine with FFplay and MPV but not with VLC. When setting the demuxer to Avformat, it seems to open for about half a second but fails to display any image.

You should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with your above report, the links to your sample files and the link to this thread:
