VLC Media Downloading On Both Windows 7 And Catalina

Unfortunately I have to keep Windows 7 running; but I have a refurbished Mac Catalina. On both I followed steps to download medial from YouTube. The versions for each system would not play after entering the URL under Open Network and hitting the Play button. The Stream checkoff box did not result in the media playing either. The page is to hear a song; so the audio to me is more important than the video. What is not working? Thank you in advance.
