How to set VLC as default DVD player on Monterey

I want to set VLC as the default DVD player on Monterey.

I have seen a how-to that does not apply any more as there is no CD or DVD option in System Preferences in Monterey anymore.

What is the best way to solve for this?

The options should appear as soon as a physical optical drive is attached to the Mac.
