Navigation through video by audio waveform

Postby chopsuuu » 21 May 2012 20:16

Hi,

hope this is the right place for this problem:

I was wondering if there is some view/plugin that enables me to see the waveform of a movie as a whole, so I can use it to navigate through the movie, e.g. jumping to a part that is very loud or very silent.

I did some googling but without any luck, maybe I just don't know the right terms to look for.
Any kind of hints are very appreciated! :)

Best,

Chris

This sounds like a really interesting feature! Regrettably, this isn't supported by VLC at all. If you wish to contribute a patch to add this feature, it would be definitely welcome.

I wish I could use VLC to trim audio, I can't without this waveform

I joined this forum for exactly the same question - is there a way to view waveforms in VLC.

Sadly, I see that the previous questions are from 2012 and 2020 and there is no update from VLC about this.

I do believe VLC is outstanding in its range of functions and almost universal usefulness, so I find it even more puzzling that VLC seems to have a total block on the use of waveforms.

Very disappointing.

Well, nobody contributed such a feature to VLC in the last decade. It would still be welcome!

11 years later we are still waiting for that feature to see the whole waveform of a file on VLC. Maybe AI will handle that in the end.

I'm sorry but this request makes little sense regarding what is available on some dedicated players.
- For audio you can have a dynamic graph of audio. Ex: clementine
- For video you navigate by thumbnail: Ex: youtube

The former being effective only for reasonable durations
