How to prevent VLC from stopping current song when expanding other folders in 'My Music'?

If I am listening to a song in My Music folder and I want to browse for the next song to play I cannot expand folders without VLC stopping the audio of the current song. This is a really irritating behavior and I've gone through all the settings trying to figure out how to stop this behavior. I'm attaching a screen shot for reference.

So for example in the screenshot if I'm currently playing 'Chivalry Is Not Dead' but I double click to expand 'Immortal Technique' the current song stops playing. So I am unable to see what songs are actually available for Immortal Technique without stopping what I'm listening to.

The only way to fix this is to update to 4.0 prereleases.
