For the last two days, I've not been able to play any video file on VLC. It flickers between full-screen and reduced screen size in a psychotic strobing effect.
I tried re-setting Preferences, but it did nothing to help.
It will not play audio files any longer, either. It plays them, but without sound, even though my computer's sound is working otherwise.
Should I just uninstall/reinstall, or is this some bug that's crept up into the latest version?

Do a full reset of the preferences (the manual way) and try again:

Deleting the APPDATA file did the trick. There were 2 GB of material in that folder. Thank you so much for your suggestion, Lotesdelere!
