Hello everybody,
My OS is MacOS Mojave (fully updated) And my VLC is: Version 3.0.16 Vetinari (Intel 64bit)
I am trying to record a Live HLS stream for around 1-2 hours using VLC, stream found here: https://www.ha.ax/om-hogskolan/webbkamera/
Find the m3u8 using your preferred method.
(The random number in the m3u8-URL change every 24hr so one needs to look it up once a day by starting the video.)
It is a webcam stream showing ship arrivals and departures in the port, at different times during the day, and night.
To put it short, I am trying to use VLC and record this stream for a whole straight 1-2 hours. Sometimes longer sometimes shorter. But for some reason VLC stops recording automatically, without me clicking on the stop button. Sometimes the recording goes on for 3min, sometimes 15min, the recording that kept going on the longest before stopping is 30min. I got no problem opening and watching the above stream in VLC, VLC does not stop it then, it's only when it comes to recording it. I have tried different settings and lately while troubleshooting I simply start a VLC recording of above stream (with or without ships) and leave the recording going in the background while I do other things on the computer. And after some time when i come back to check I see that VLC has stopped recording way too early and the file size are not near where it should be. I have searched the internet a total of probably 20 hours trying to figure out the problem, including some threads on the VLC forum, some on Videohelp, plus many other sites, but no tips or tricks at all have help.
As far as VLC goes I have tried tweaking and different settings, for example increased the network cache which is said to help with unstable/stuttering streams, just to see if it makes any difference what so ever, it didn't.
Like suggested here: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/change ... ng-buffer/
Or here: https://www.wedostreaming.com/iptv/92-h ... work-cache
Tried both 5 seconds and 10 seconds. No difference what so ever.
After fiddling around in the settings panel I actually made a software reset to make everything default, so that's how it is now.
And after all the reading and trying to make it work over several weeks, without success and a lot of headache, I thought it might be best to simply create an account on the official VLC forum to see if some Mac developers can perhaps reproduce my issue at their end, if not, then maybe it is possible to set up VLC to create some logs that help understand what's going on and that I could provide. Maybe it is a problem in the latest VLC version, a combo of VLC + Mojave, or something else. At the moment I got no clue why VLC does not work as expected for me, but it works great for others.
Thank you very much in advance.
P.S
I first created an account and thread over at the VideoHelp forums where I explained my problem in great detail, quickly got great feedback from members and members were also very helpful trying at their end to see if it worked for them, with successful results! But that post also included a bit of non VLC related things concering other software, so I stripped all that out before posting here. But I also want to mention that thread as it might have useful information for others searching around trying to solve similar issues. And the post includes every bit of info, what I am trying to do, all I have tried so far, and what does not work. So I hope its O.K. to include a link to it. And it seems that not all OS's and/or VLC versions are affected by this issue, as one member in below thread recorded an impressive 4.5 hours of the stream without problems using VLC. With one difference being that he used VLC version 3.0.8. while I got the latest 3.0.16.
