How to disable audible notification for low Bluetooth headset battery?

Postby michaeln2021 » 26 Sep 2021 14:50

I have a Pixel 3 that is running Android 11/Build# RQ3A.210905.001 and my headset is Skull Candy Smokin' Buds 2; The media players that I tried were Media Monkey and VLC, latest versions for both. The issue is that every 30 or 60 seconds, I hear a "dedodedo" through my headset which I believe is due to my headset battery being at 30% or less. I Googled this issue and read that there is a setting to disable this "spoken notification" under Settings -> Apps -> My Headset but I have no such setting. I chatted with Google Support (twice) and they said that the setting was under Connected Devices -> Personal but I again do not see that option. Google Support's final suggestion was to contact Skull Candy, reset my phone, uninstall/reinstall apps, or the other usual brush off statements. My suspicion is that Google removed this setting, might anyone here have any suggestions?

Thank you so much, Mike

I have no My Headset app.

Under Settings → Apps, hit the three dots at upper right and tap "Show system apps". Do you have one now?

I can get to System Apps but there is still no Connected Devices or My Headset there. There is a Bluetooth entry but I didn't see the setting in question. Do you see a setting for this?

Thanks, Mike

My suggestion does not work for you and I have no headset nor Android 11. Only more speculation: If you are hearing through your headset a signal pertaining to conditions within the headset, it might not go through Android at all. And 30% battery is awfully premature for a headset to bother you at the expense of your desired listening experience.

Not that the Google Help Desk wouldn't blow you off, but the answer might indeed be at the headset maker. However, why not first plug in some fresh batteries? That might disprove your guess about what the audible means.

PS—The next time it happens, look at the Status Bar and drag it down to see if there is a Notification that might tell you what the noise was about. If so, slide it to the right to reveal the gear. Tap on it to set that type of Notification not to interrupt your listening. Unwanted noises are sometimes your bloatware informing you of an unwanted update.

Moved to Coffee Corner because this has nothing to do with VLC.
