Unable to play BluRay folder (M1 MBP)

Postby jdeere » 22 Aug 2021 18:51

Hello there,
I recently installed VLC Media Player 3.0.16 Vetinari (Apple Silicon)

My MBP also has the following installed:
- Azul Zulu OpenJDK 11 (with the appropriate JAVA_HOME set in .zshrc)

The following were installed using Homebrew:
- libbluray
- libaacs
- libbdplus

I am aware that there are some bugs with the Apple UDF Driver which results in a KP when trying to play from an ISO file. However, I am trying to play a folder on an external hard drive. It would be great if I could know what I am doing wrong when playing my blurays.

VLC includes libbdplus and libbluray by default also on Apple Silicon, just without support for BR menus because both libraries were compiled without Java support. VLC cannot use any library installed by Homebrew, so it will also fail to use your libaacs installation. VideoLAN does not distribute binaries of that library and in-turn also not for Apple Silicon. Nor will we ever distribute the necessary keys to actually use that library.
