VLM/VOD is going away?

Postby Linwood » 10 Aug 2021 20:00

I was working to get VLC integrated with my Home Assistant and video cameras and chromecast, using VLM and VOD and...

Code: Select all

main debug: creating VLM main debug: loading VLM configuration main debug: load c:\users\watch\desktop\Test2.vlm main: VoD support will be removed from the VLM in the next major version of VLC.
So... no more video on demand anywhere? Is it moving? The documentation that I found doesn't speak to this, but I do not want to put work into using it and need a new product later.

VOD is what I need to, on demand, put up a mosaic of camera images, right? So it will sit ready, and when requested be available? I'm not trying to broadcast 24x7.

Or am I thinking of it incorrectly?

What's the story on VOD's demise?

no more video on demand anywhere?
No more "vod" media type in VLM.
Is it moving?
No, it is removed.
VOD is what I need to, on demand, put up a mosaic of camera images, right?
No, that's normally done with the broadcast media type or with HLS.
What's the story on VOD's demise?
It never went beyond proof-of-concept, is not soundly designed and has been essentially unmaintained for most of its lifetime.

I'll work with it on broadcast and see how that goes, thank you.
