Motu 828 - 5.1 problemo, very annoying!!

Postby charlieidda » 12 Sep 2004 00:55

Hi,
I have a motu 828 - 8 out soundcard, and I have a few avi files which seem to be ripped in 5.1, which when i play light up most of my output L.E.D's, and i can only hear sound effects and music...(i dont have 5.1 speakers)
Ive been through the prefs and couldnt seem to find anything to change this (saying that, all the encoders decoders names just confuse me!)

I did a search and it seems quite a few people have had this problem and not really got any answrs.
Is there any way i can set it to output on stereo? or is there any apps that convert 5.1 movies to stereo? and is the fix on vlc, which i read is supposed to be happening, going to come soon?
Thanks
Charlie

MOTU 8-Channel options gone

Postby Hawk » 07 Jul 2005 21:34

That's an easy fix, choose a different output from the audio device menu. On my menu, I have 6 different outputs for the MOTU. The first stereo one should be main left and right output.

My problem is that VLC 0.8.2 has taken these options away. I was liking the fact that I *could* use 5.1 AC3 files with my MOTU. Now, the option seems to be gone. I can still use the MOTU in a standard stereo mode. Is there a way to bring back the 8-Channel output? The prefs are very different and I don't see anything that could help.

Motu 896 (PCM 8 CH) output not working in 082 084 OSX

Postby drdave CND » 02 Feb 2006 07:21

Motu 896 8 Ch PCM no longer works in MAC OSX the last 2 versions - - 084 and 082 wont play an AVI properly encoded with 8 chanel PCM that plays fine in 082t1 and 081 and older versions on all 8 chanels of the motu 896.

Nedless to say this was the reason i went to VLC in the first place! works on 052.....

I am Using Firewire 8 ch audio output (PCM 8 channel) Motu 896

I notice in the audio menu on both the new versions i see only MOTU 896 and not both [MOTU 896 AND MOTU 896 (8 channel PCM)] as in the earlier (Working) versions - Any hope this might be explained, and any options i might have to make the newer versions work on all 8 channels - On the newer versions - MOTU 896 only does stereo out, wasting all those amps and chanels... (OUCH)

084 - BROKEN - how to fix?
082 - BROKEN - How To Fix?
082t1 - WORKS
080 - Works
072 Works

Did you configure your speaker layout in Audio Midi Setup Utility as is required for analog multichannel audio output? Remember that VLC supports just 6Ch. maximum, so you will need to disable 2 Ch in Audio Midi Setup Util as well.

Also, you can try a newer Nightly Build of the 0.8.5 previews. It has a couple of fixes for devices with less robust CoreAudio drivers.

Please let me know the results. If you want PM me, so we can exchange IM info perhaps, so we can communicate more directly.
