Japanese Subtítles

Postby johngrey » 21 Apr 2021 06:26

When I try to watch a movie and add japanese subtitles, instead of japanese text appearing in the subtitle space, only squares appear...
I have japanese language installed on this Computer (Win7), do I need to install japanese language files for VLC, or what do I need to do?

Please help...

Thank you

You need to use a font which supports japanese characters.

Thank you, but what exactly does that mean.
I use both english and japanese on this computer, and every japanese website I open with Firefox is shown without a problem. So, I need to add a japüanes font to VLC? Is that correct?
I checked the menu of VLC Player but I found nothing that suggests any possiblity for doing that.
It asks for preferred language for subtitles, and when I click the japanese option... nothing happens

Tools > Preferences > Subtitles/OSD: Font [Arial Unicode MS?]
