How Do I Play Videos in Folders with a Long Name?

Postby Sparky383 » 15 Apr 2021 00:05

Is there a way to make VLC play video files in a folder with a long name that exceeds the default Windows 260 Character limit? I enabled the long path feature in the registry. I'm using Win10.

After doing so, I can play video files with
Format Player,
Irfanview (64bit) which is primarily an image program,
Movies & TV,
MPC-HC,
Photos

What happens exactly when you try play audio / video located in such a folder?

If nothing happens create a log file as per the following instructions and then upload it to Pastebin and post the link to that here.

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.
