Playing Tenet on VLC 3.0.12

I am unable to use VLC 3.0.12 (running on a Mac) to play a brand new just-out-the-box 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of the recently released film Tenet.

The errors and warnings box reports : Your input can't be opened. VLC is unable to open the file 'bluray:///Volumes/TENET/BDMV'. Check the log for details.

The log file has the following lines:

This is not the VLC log file. Please first open the messages window (main menu --> windows --> messages). Then play the disc again. Afterwards you can save the full log to a file.
