Where are the M1 binaries?

Postby vbonline » 03 Jan 2021 14:36

I can see the source for ARM64 with VLC release 3.0.12.1 but I can't find binaries for Apple Silicon. Even the nightlies are Intel (and not universal).

Anyone more adept then me with Xcode willing to share VLC 3.0.12.1 macos-arm64 binaries? Or point me in the right direction to find them?

Thanks in advance!

I managed to build it from source. I noticed some small bugs (like wrong resolution reported in full screen video device for built-in display) otherwise seems to work fine.

I guess that's why it hasn't been released yet, it's just not ready.

Which would be ok and understandable. What is missing is the communication (What isn't working? and: When will it be ready?)...

The source release of 3.0.12.1 (which declared support for Apple Silicon) was December 16th. A month ago... Still no binary release, and worse no reason why and no timeline given.

Later I might upload my build somewhere. If it's ok with everyone especially those involved in the project.

Thanks for the M1 build.
I found that in the Apple Silicon build 3.0.12.1, compared to the Intel build, the libbluray jar files are missing.
As a direct result, some UHD BDMVs required Java support cannot load the BD menu.
As a workaround, I copied the two jar files from the Intel build and the BD menu works fine.

Hello

Will there be a Universal Binary version of VLC at some point? I manage a fleet of Macs using Munki/AutoPKG and while this can cope with separate Intel and ARM builds things are much smoother with a single app.

I'm looking forward to testing this build on my new m1 Mini!

Thanks.

Why does MacOS report this build as an "IOS" app and not "Universal"?

Select About this Mac from the Apple Icon.
System Report
Select Applications under the Software section
Right hand column named Kind

We do not plan to do universal builds, for performance and size reasons.

If your are on ARM, search for update again, which gives you 3.0.12.1 which is the native arm version.
